The whole time I've been in Chiang Mai, I've kept hearing about nothing but Doi Sutep and how important it was that I go. So, obviously, I was ecstatic to (finally) go to Wat Phrathat Doi Sutep!
The day started early at 8 a.m. with the knowledge that we would be headed to the winter palace first. We rode up the mountain in sung tao, which probably wasn't the best idea, as pretty much everyone got car sick. On the plus side, our driver bumped some early 00's slow jams and so we got to do some impromptu Mariah Carey, N*SYNC, Sound Garden and S-Club 7 karaoke. When we arrived to the palace, it was under renovations, so we spent the morning looking around the gardens.

From there we went to Doi Sutep. It's always really hard describing the temples because they have this permeating atmosphere of reverence that make words completely insufficient. Of course, Doi Sutep was no exception. The best I can do is offer pictures.

these bells were the bringers of good luck for this temple- they made the most beautiful background noise chiming in the wind |
